It is not. The magnets in my RKA bag are strong and held captive in
such a way they are able to make good solid contact with the tank.
My son has a cheaper tank bag which has a somewhat less compliant
base and flaps, and his bag doesn't sit as securely on the tank.

It may well be that every school-boy knows the minutiae of the ST1100's
construction and spends many a pleasant afternoon arguing the merits
of aluminum tanks, However, I pray that my abysmal ignorance of the
ST1100's construction can be excused, never having owned or ridden one.
On behalf of Mr. Roehling, I thank you kindly for pointing out this
deficit in my grasp of all things related to the ST1100. You have
reinforced my long-standing belief that this newsgroup, while regarded
by some as a simmering pit of iniquity, is still a source of some of
the ripest information available.

Bingo! That's why I asked specifically about "best for an ST"

No, it's aluminum!

I put 'tank' in quotes in my post because it's not really the tank,
the tank is lower down in the frame, as on a GW. The cover between
where you sit, which covers the air cleaner and gas cap, is aluminum.

Oops. Just checked. It -is- plastic. You were right. Anyway, not
magnetic.
