It's funny. I'm a 51 year old motorcyclist who never has ever
considered himself a biker and doesn't really want to be called a
biker. If "real" bikers sneer at me, that's no skin off my nose;
I've likely been riding as long or longer than them (31 years), ridden
significantly harder than them, and have almost certainly put in more
miles than them.

What's funny about that is that I don't ride a BMW sport tourer or a
Japanese crotch rocket, I ride a Harley Street Glide, and most anyone
who doesn't ride a motorcycle would consider me a "biker."

However, I don't wear leather (except when roadracing), I wear
synthetic riding gear (an armored mesh jacket in the summer and an
Aerostich Roadcrafter the pther three seasons) and I wear a full-face
helmet. Yes, even in states without helmet laws. So to a hardcore
old-line "biker" I probably appear to be a yuppie or a rub. If so,
that's his problem, not mine. I wave to everyone and don't care WHAT
you ride, and only hope that your bike makes you as happy as mine does
me.

My advice to "c" is to ride what he wants, where he wants, when he
wants, wearing what works for him, and not giving a good goddamn what
other people think about it because he's not spending their money and
he doesn't need their permission or approval.

The Road King is a nice bike; I hope "c" finds one that suits him,
buys it, and rides it long, hard, and often, with a huge grin on his
face!

Sorry, couldn't resist. (it's what I ride)

If the Road King lights your fire, get it and enjoy. Real motorcyclists will
see how you ride and act, while biker wannabe rubs judge you by your costume
and butt jewelry.

Or the Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS. Or the BMW K1300GT
(drool....).
