Similar thing happened in the rice shop just East of Rednecksburg Va. Buddy
went in to buy a new bike cash in hand. Salesmen were too busy chatting
with each other. So he hunted up the boss and offered to buy the new $10k
bike if she'd fire one of the lazy salesmen - her pick. She refused so he
bought elsewhere.

One Friday afternoon I tried to buy a used Harley from the old dealer in
Richmond. He was glad to sell it but wouldn't let me have it for a week
even though I was paying cash, citeing "company policy". He's gone,
replaced by another dealer. I bought an identical bike from Waugh the next
day.

SWMBO spotted a new FLHTC she liked and salesman quoted a price. Later, I
checked the Blue-book trade value on her sporty, found we had enough in
checking to buy the FLH even if they allowed zip for the chrome forks and
$1500 hard bags she'd have them install a few months before. Salesman said
the shop would need to check her bike out. Two hours later he offered her
$1000 less than wholesale book. No, there was nothing wrong with her bike,
they just didn't use book values ... except to set their prices. She said
she'd wait for the 2010s. Too bad, their shop and parts counter is great.
Meanwhile she's looking at Ducatis again ......

Ya gotta wonder. The yuppie/rub craze began about '91. Maybe all salesmen
trained on them. Oh well ... my old FLH is like the energizer bunny.

Right there you're beginning to reveal where your problems originate.

Take the chip off your own shoulder and people will be less likely to
knock it off. Maybe you're just not used to encountering types who
will.
