At 17 I had two part-time jobs - one in a newsagents, the other
delivering pizzas. That paid for me to buy and insure a TZR125.

Kids today, etc.

Quite so. My generation (and Beav is older than me) bought and
insured our own vehicles with our own money. I don't really see why
it should be any different now.
