Yes and no.

When I were nowt burra lad in me short keks and up for a spot of ledgering
we used to rig a bite indicator out of a bit of groundbait slung over the
line. 50 years on and The Bleeding Father introduces me to the "delights"
of carp fishing and he has got all the modern hi tech gear including bite
indicators that have short range (about 100 yards) radio comms fitted.
About 200 squids a pop they are and do make it so that less bites are
missed so a bit more fun because you don't lose so many fish and the skill
required is the one required by the fishing tackle sales droid in selling
it to you.
