I know it sounds sensible but if one goes for the Luge event at M-Way speed
does anything stop the abrasion, short of your bones?
I don't think I know anyone who has done the 500 yard event from a ton+ down
one of 'er Maj's finest motorways.

I don't think I've ever seen a better example of "projection".

Are you talking specifically about alternatives to leathers? Cos I've
been off several times at close to a ton with leathers on.

I don't think any of the alternatives to leathers are anywhere close to
comparable at such speeds. Obviously, leathers work quite well at
protecting the rider's epidermis at triple digit speeds in many track
getoffs we have seen in crash videos.

The couple of times I fell off bikes wearing my Aerostich it saved me from
losing skin, but it didn't do anything to stop massive brusing in areas
where I had no armor padding. It does have armor in the elbows, knees,
and shoulders, but none on the hips/thighs, although that is optional,
as is a back protector.

Do you never watch bike racing? Decent leathers will protect your skin
at well over the ton, as long as you don't hit anything solid.

In reality though you're very unlikely to slide far on tarmac on the
road. The longest I've managed was around 20 yards, & my jeans survived
(which is more than can be said for the rocker cover on the R65 I was
riding).
