In answer to you and Champ I wondered if leathers would save your own hide
sliding to a halt for 100+ down motorway tarmac?
Racers usually end up on the grass/pea gravel pretty smartly.

There's been a few I've seen where they slide forever down a long
straight. Most notably whoever it was who got their front brake lever
clipped on the straight in a 125/250 race (McWilliams?).

I had an 80mph off, of the sky brake-lights tarmac sky headlights sky
brakelights repeat type, on a motorway, weaing leathers and a textile
jacket.

The jacket didn't fare so well, although I didn't get any gravel rash
at all. The leather jeans were find for another few years of riding.
