Well indeedy. History lesson here
http://www.cna.ca/curriculum/cna_nuc_tech/cobalt60-eng.asp?bc=Cobalt-60%20Therapy%20Unit&pid=Cobalt-60%20Therapy%20Unit

Radium was being used for medical imaging from the 1890's and could be
called waste and famously the first instance of Radiotherapy was by Emil
Grubbe on a breast cancer in <googles> 1897 but that was using tubes of
Radon gas.

Thats a bit of a thread drift though

All very well Zwei Hunde, but let's step back even further...are you
really implying that it wasn't in the US's best interests to fight the
war on the side of the Allies, or do you toe the line that they (US)
"bailed us out", presumably just because they were being nice? What do
you say to the argument that during the period in which the US was not
actively participating, the UK and its allies fought alone and could
therefore be considered to have bailed the US out?

Not defending the US war effort at all, Tricky Dicky. Just
questioning the OP's assertion that the US was all about saving itself
in Europe from a dirty nuke that Hitler almost ready and earmarked for
New York via a super plane. I like fantasy as much as the next man,
but really....

Anyway, shouldn't you be down in Galveston with a pool skimmer?

Fair enuff. Although I must tell you he might be on to something. I
have an old "Sgt Fury and his howling commandos" comic which clearly
shows an evil super-plane created no doubt by the lights of perverted
nazi science, piloted by a hapless gerry swine being foiled by a
solid, earnest british hero in the "Sky Captain" stylee.

>   Anyway, shouldn't you be down in Galveston with a pool skimmer?

Poor old Galveston. Never exactly a paradise at the best of times, it
looked even more forlorn when I was there a few weeks ago for the
first time since Hurricane Ike. The place still hasn't recovered
properly, and had a depressing run-down feel to it. If that wicked,
imperialistic British oil comes its way, it'll be the last straw i
would imagine.
