Maybe Canada lost a hockey game, but they
won big time in ice dancing I guess.

You need to check out the goalie wearing the US uniform. He plays for
Buffalo and is in the top five of the league in almost all goaltender
categories. He is a good one.

Yup Gordie is a Canadian, but his sons who also played top level pro
hockey are US citizens.

heh, if I'd have grown up in hockey playing country...I'd likely have
made it my goal to get at lead 3 "Gordie Howe hat tricks" a
season...maybe more. 8^) Would you believe it wasn't until the US beat
the USSR for the gold that I found out fights weren't common in
hockey. Well that's all they seemed to show on the boob tube when I
was still in short pants.

iirc didn't they all play in the NHL at the same time or am I
misremembering?

Say what you will about fighting in Hockey, but a fight still gets
everyone up and out of their seats.

The bench clearing brawls are gone, but until someone dies on the ice,
fighting will be part of the game.

Back when I played rarely did anyone get hurt in a fight. Now the
goons are capable of inflicting serious injuries and often do.

I know they all played together in the WHA, Houston or Hartford I
think, but I am not sure about the NHL. I think Gordie was well past
his prime by that time, and the NHL player rights for his kids were
owned by different teams. I could be wrong though. Strange things
happened right after the NHL/WHA merge.

Agreed, though the most grievous injuries seem to accidents or they
didn't mean to cause THAT kind of injury...I still shudder over the
goalie that had his throat layed open. <shudder I'm still glad the
ambulance was behind his goal, after that those little beard/bibs
became real common for goalies to wear. <shudder>
