Some (although far from all) of the stuff they broadcast is bought in on condition that it's only shown in the UK - the fact that satellite users as far away as the south of Spain can receive it is a bonus, although they even tried to limit that by moving to a smaller-footprint beam when they went free-to-air some years back. Bigger dishes were then needed by some. What does annoy me is their sports coverage, i.e. Motogp and F1, not being available to us on iPlayer. I don't mean live, but after the event would be nice on those occasions I miss it.

As Ace says, a lot of it's due to their contract with the supplier. This is particularly true of sport. The same applies for the stuff the BBC produce, but the other way round. They couldn't really make something like Top Gear available worldwide on iPlayer, then expect to charge other countries' carriers huge amounts for the rights to show it. -- Krusty Raptor 1000 MV 750 Senna Tiger 955i Tiger 885 Fantic Hiro 250

I'm sure Bernie will happily take your money for the same thing on the F1 web site - it'd be unlike him to miss a trick. -- ogden | gsxr1000 | ktm duke 2

That magic S word makes it of no conceivable interest to me. >access to the video library on the MotoGP web site. I don't want the entire video library. I just want to see the race if I miss it at the weekend. And MotoGP's usually repeated throughout the week on Eurosport. > I'm sure Bernie will happily take your money for >the same thing on the F1 web site - it'd be unlike him to miss a trick. Sadly, despite several attempts at registering on there, it's stubbornly refused to send me the email I need to confirm registration. |
