Gotta look into this some more. So far all the reviews I found were favorable. Anyway, when I mentioned the Hinckley Bonnie on UKRM everyone was really mean to me. Some of them were quite beastly. Even Wicked Uncle Nigel lived up to his name. So I didn't want to play there any more. SQ [pouting]

So it's slow: really, really slow for a 900cc parallel twin. It just doesn't sound like a parallel twin, either. The trail wheels and geometry don't do it many favours. It handles... well, OK, but never feels particularly sure-footed. And the single front disc is only adequate, no more. I hopped from it onto a 2009 'proper' Bonnie, and the difference was amazing. The Bonnie has a 360 degree crank, and a lot more power (though in absolute terms, still Not Much). The riding position's better, the brakes are better, the handling's better, and it delivers much more sensory feedback from both engine and chassis. I said all this to the dealer, and he nodded and said: "Yes, the Scrambler's got the wrong engine in it..." Went back the next day to try the Street Triple and while I was waiting for it, the shop's workshop chief wandered by. "Did you ride the Scrambler yesterday?" he asked. "Yes." "What did you think?" "Horrible." "You're right. God knows why they put the 270 degree engine in it." Then tried the Street Trip, and the rest is history :-) I've seen some tricked up Scramblers (Triumph does a good lot of aftermarket kit for it), and as I said, it looks sensational, but if you want a riding experience, imagine an old 1980s Suzuki GS450 twin with wide bars and trail tyres.

One simply uses the hood (bonnet) off a car for a sled. |
