A bit of a sales flop. Trellis frame like a Ducati. They were originally priced the same as a Ducati SS, as well, so nobody bought 'em. Then they slashed the price dramatically and people started buying them. I rode one. Nice frame. Nice engine, too, but a bloody awful gearbox. Bad suspension, poor brakes, terrible seat. Some blew up early, too, a bit like the TDM850, aka the Tedium. Others run for ever, mind. Those who have'em uprate them - R1 calipers bolt straight on, suspension is easy to replace, and so on, and modded ones apparently are really rather good. The basics are there - engine, frame - but in stock trim, the rest was/is pretty crappy. -- BMW K1100LT Ducati 750SS Honda CB400F Triumph Street Triple Suzuki TS250ER GN250 Damn, back to six bikes! Anyone tried a Ducati 500 or a Laverda 750 SF? Probably the worst and the best parallel twin engines. -- Eiron.

Never tried the Ducati, but have ridden a Laverda. Yes, damn good engine. The rest of the bike is a bit daunting these days, though. Yeah the old CB350s buzzed like nobody's business, but I loved riding one. Oh wait, the CB450 DOHC was much better, I REALLY loved riding that one.

Best ever 4-stroke vertical twins? I'd nominate them for running in the top ten of WORST ever 4-stroke vertical twins! |
