I've always agreed. I generally have zero interest in big Hollywood
blockbusters laden with SFX. But every so often something comes along
which provides an engaging and immersive experience that just captures
me.

See, I don'tthink it was appalling. The plot can be criticised for
being simplistic, but as a whole I think the film was a frankly
amazing experience. Sure, the effects were a part of that, but they
weren't the whole thing.
