'77 models would have been released in late 1976, say September. <g>

So SQ will have to tell us all if it says /6 or /7 on the side of the
engine. And has a disc or drum front brake. I had a 1975 R90/6...

This link shows the R60/7 as being in production from 76 to 82.

Either way he may have found the exact engine and misc parts he was
looking for. Heck of a deal if he can pull all the various bits
together.

Not to my way of thinking. $1500 should buy
you a larger engine with maybe a little left over
to beef up the Dnepr gearbox that you join it to.

I can't see a 600cc engine as a big improvement
and I'm dubious about how well the entire BMW
drivetrain will transplant.

If I were going to transplant anything more than the
engine, the first item on my list might be a front wheel
with disk brake.

I've been known to be wrong before though, so best
of luck in any case.

Just a minor question... how do I get the motor out of
the donor bike... and into the Dnepr's frame? (Drop the oil pan
for more clearance?) I guess I'll find out when the time comes.
