I don't lose *much* sleep, I've long ago learned to tune out the roar of the bikes and, to be honest, don't really notice it except on hot summer nights when all my windows are open and it's so hot I can't sleep well anyway. Life ain't fair, but like the rest of you I got better things to do than beat my head against a brick wall for a lost cause. Earplugs are cheap, but it annoys my wife when I wear them in the house. ;-) For the record, it was the guy that wrote about the physics of muffler construction and the unreasonable volume of muffler that would be required to muffle a large twin that I found the most convincing. FINALLY an actual reason... of course why would you design a motor that can't be muffled if not for the "cool sound"? Interesting that Suzuki can get 153HP out of a 1300cc motor which is relatively quiet while HD struggles to get 100HP and only then with incredibly expensive mods and a sound that, according to another post, will "wake the dead". Ride on. Dave S

My BMW K1200GT develops close to 160 HP and will do at least 150 MPH. The chain noise in the engine is louder than the exhaust. In fact, the engine whine sets off car alarms (Not loud, sonic frequency). The dealer said I could put on less restricting mufflers to open up the power band. What? Why? Thumper > > |
