I'm thankful for small mercies. The lack of Test cricket is, I agree,
a sad state of affairs, but getting rid of football and all the
bollocks that surrounds it can only be a good thing.

It's only you that thinks you license the receiver. As has been
explained, you don't - you have a licence for the address. And it also
covers off-site use, like a portable TV running in your car and,
unless this has been changed, and it wouldn't surprise me if it had,
it also allows residents who are temporarily living away from home,
like students in digs, to remain covered on their parents' license.

>And how do they tell you actually have one.

They make that assumption, you have to be able to demonstrate that you
haven't. Every TV sale is logged with the relevant authority. This is
peculiar to the UK IME - in the other countries I live in it's up to
you to tell them about it.

no-one likes to imagine a ginger anywhere close to naked.

ah.

Speaking of R4, did you hear "Just a Minute" last night? Nicholas
Parsons is beyond senile now.

Giles Brandreth interrupted himself, and Nicholas got very confused
and awarded the continuation to Paul Merton, much to Paul Merton's
confusion. This confusion then prompted Jenny Eclair to interrupt on
the grounds of "deviation", which eventually ended up with Nicholas
awarding the continuation to Graham Norton.

Very funny, but also tragic.

Really? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/5161070.stm

At least four football programmes every Saturday for the next two
months, plus several on Sundays & Wednesday.

Not much rugby, but still a few games in the listings in August, then
the four nations.
