On some fronts it's equal, but I don't think it's higher anywhere. My Dad has the 400D and my wife the 1000D, and I'd rate the 1000D higher on all fronts, especially as 400D has no auto ISO. The 1000D also has the later Digic 3 processor, and SD card usage, and can take more JPGs in a row (and I think its RAW buffer is larger). 1000D has Live View, which is enough of a reason on its own. And the 1000D LCD screen is better. I prefer the 1000D over the 400D any time. -- Kev
