It doesn't help that he was using idiot mode. If he were to use AV(1) mode to
stop down the lens it would probably help.

(1)Paul, AV is Aperture priority, the higher the number the less light making
it through the lens to the sensor.

Hmm, that would be a bit odd, the flash would do sod all.

I suspect that answers the question about full auto or landscape. AFAIK
the flash won't fire on landscape (or at least on my 450D) but ICBA to
go and check right now.

Ooh, thinks. Going to London tomorrow, better charge my batteries.

Total idiot mode. And they have been jpegged, so aren't going to be crystal
clear. Another thing is my hands aren't the steadiest on the planet. The
picture of the climbers was taken with the long lens on full zoom, without a
tripod or even a wall, hence fuzzy.

If you think you could tell from the original, could I ftp one to you? Or I
could put it on my server and you could wget it. Or summat.

Yup. Be better when the weather cools down a tad though.

I'd best read the book, and start using the thing properly. It seems living
somewhere so sunny could be hampering my efforts a tad.

Only sometimes. When the sun is in front of me. I think.
