Coppers accidentally shooting themselves is rather more common than 'bad guys' shooting them as well. -- Veggie Dave http://www.iq18films.co.uk "To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." Surely any possible sentence is only a deterrent if the criminal actually believes they're going to get caught? Even that, I suppose, requires some element of forethought. I remember catching a scene from one of the interminable "Police" shows a few months back. Plod were in the booking-in room, counting one suspect's allegedly ill-gotten gains, as another suspect was led past. Suspect two lunged forward and grabbed the money. In a custody suite, (literally) surrounded by coppers. Of course, he hit the ground under a big pile of Plod within a second. What was he thinking? Well, pretty clearly, he wasn't. -- Wicked Uncle Nigel - "He's hopeless, but he's honest" can you see the light of need shinin' in my eye?

A lot of 'accidental discharge' figures are probably suicides. Or 'cleaning gun' accidents.....

Quite a lot of murder and serious crime is premeditated or not exactly instantaneous though don't you think? And we musn't forget Revenge and Retribution. Important elements. If someone had topped a close friend or family member I'm sure watching them die in the gas chamber would assist the grieving process. In just the same way that taking someone away and battering them to the edge of life, for crossing you grievously, is a tremendous stress reliever. -- 'Hog |
